The new edition of the European Social Forum in the Swedish city Malmö started on Wednesday with a cultural event at Folkets Park and will continue until Sunday. More than 20,000 people are expected to participate. Representatives of social organizations, movements and networks from different regions have arrived. On Thursday, seminars, workshops and demonstrations will continue the tradition which was started in Florence 2002. Thai organization Focus on the Global South, the Transnational Institute of the Netherlands, the Linking Alternatives Network from Latin America and Europe, Friends of the Earth International and Via Campesina are present in Malmö. In the opening act, Vandana Shiva was one of the main speakers.
