Latin America: Unanimous Rejection to European Anti-Immigrant Law Freezes Association Agreements

The EU's excluding policy on immigration from Third World countries to the 27 member countries of the European bloc, has had a devastating effect on a sensitive aspect of Brussel's strategy in Latin America: association agreements. The so called “Return Directive” was rejected by the Latin American governments and parliaments given the recent call off of the negotiations with the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) facing the signing of Association Agreements. The resolution issued by the European Parliament on June 18th, called “Return Directive”, places undocumented immigrants in the EU in a situation of absolute vulnerability. This goes against the discourse of the European negotiating teams that have been pushing for association or free trade agreements with Latin American nations or group of nations that open the entrance to European transnational corporations to Latin America even more.
