Venezuela Rejects UE´s Investment in Latin America While Undocumented Immigrants Are Threatened With Imprisonment

Venezuela condemns, together with other Latin American governments and social organizations, the European ruling that allows for the imprisonment of illegal immigrants for up to 18 months. Venezuelan President, Hugo Chávez, stated that those of the 27 countries of the EU which decide to apply the “Return Directive” will not obtain oil from Venezuela. In addition, he rejected the extractive investments carried out by corporations from the EU in Latin America and the Caribbean. “The passing of the Return Directive is outrageous, and thus, we reject its creation”, said Chávez. “I wish all countries expressed their rejection to this ruling in defense of the dignity of our peoples. Sadly, right-wing and the extreme right-wing dominate Europe”, stated the Venezuelan President.
